Dear Friends:

Welcome to the School of Policy and International Affairs Web site. SPIA (the shortened version of our title), was established by President Robert Kennedy in early 2007 to bring new organizational structure to the University of Maine's wide-ranging academic work related to policy issues and international affairs. This is a wonderful university, and we have great intellectual resources in these areas, which are of interest to students and of great import to the state and nation we serve.

SPIA is still new, and we are working with faculty colleagues and others to further develop details related to academic programming and other elements of our organization. We have been encouraged by the great enthusiasm we see from people all around UMaine, from outside the university, nationally and internationally as SPIA takes shape.

Please enjoy your visit to this Web site, where you can learn about some of our recent activities, and the initiatives with which we are currently involved. If you live locally, you might consider joining the Bangor Foreign Policy Forum, which brings high-level speakers to our state, raising the level of discourse about issues of international importance.

I appreciate your interest and encourage you to return to see and read about how we are developing and moving forward.
