Ambassador Marcelle M. Wahba, Vice Chair

photo of AMBASSADOR MARCELLE M. WAHBAAmbassador Marcelle M. Wahba is the State Department's foreign policy adviser to the Air Force Chief of Staff, Washington, D.C. She provides advice on U.S. foreign policy and international developments relevant to the Air Force, to the Chief of Staff and to other members of the Air Staff. She is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, rank of Minister-Counselor, on detail from the Department of State.  She comes to this assignment after 20 years of federal service, during which she served primarily in overseas assignments focusing on U.S. foreign policy towards the Middle East, political-military affairs and public diplomacy.

During her career, Ambassador Wahba served as the Deputy Policy Officer in the Near East Office of the U.S. Information Agency, Embassy Spokesperson at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, Egypt, and Public Affairs Officer for the U.S. Embassy in Nicosia, Cyprus.  Subsequently, Ambassador Wahba served as the Counselor for Press and Cultural Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Amman, Jordan, and then as Minister-Counselor at U.S. Embassy Cairo, Egypt.

In 2001, the President selected her as his Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United Arab Emirates.  Ambassador Wahba worked with the senior leadership in the UAE, Washington, D.C and U.S. Central Command to successfully lead U.S. government efforts in counterterrorism, non-proliferation and antiterrorist financing measures.  For her service in the UAE she received a Presidential Award, and was also awarded the UAE Order of Independence Medal, First Class, by the President of the UAE.  Prior to assuming her current position, Ambassador Wahba was Deputy Commandant of the National War College in Washington, D.C.
